If like me, coffee is as much a part of your morning routine as getting dressed and brushing your teeth, you too may find that your Costa and Starbucks expenditure is spiraling out of control. I had a bit of a shock when I totalled up my 2013 spend! Could have bought a selection of Christian Louboutin heels, a cute Chanel bag or booked a nice long weekend away with The Boy… you get the picture!
Something had to be done. And fast! With the help of The Boy and some researching on the www I decided to become my own personal barista. Not want to dish out a couple of thousand pounds on a ‘proper’ piece of kit, we opted for the slightly more compact, and perhaps easier to use Nespresso Citiz gadget (with the little milk frother – had to have one of these!). To use this machine we needed to invest in the Nespresso pods. Whilst many a coffee geeks have found ways in which to make these coffee capsules DIY – I opted for the real thing… atleast to get started. One espresso machine and about 200 coffee pods later – I was ready to start making my ‘proper’ brew and saving!
No matter WHAT coffee you order from your fav coffee joint, I promise you can make it yourself and love it just as much! Using the Citiz is seriously good fun!
How to make the “coffee” aka espresso shot (or 2)
1- Top up the water tank
2- Choose your desired coffee capsule and insert
3- Choose a single or a double espress shot and select (press the little button)
-You’ve got your coffee part!
1- Select the froth or stir gadget (either proper frothy milk, or slightly airated)
2- Pour in the milk
3- Press the on button (once to heat the milk, twice to simply give it a cool shake)
If you’re like me – you’ll want syrup! Monin do some wonderful take home syrups available from your local supermarkets (these are the one’s Costa use). My absolute favourites are Vanilla and Hazelnut but there’s a huge range to choose from.
Now all you need to do is get your desired proportions right and you’ve got your perfect morning (or afternoon) coffee!
Nespresso Boutique was clearly going to be my favourite weekend go-to spot to pick up new coffees and gadgets. They have walls and walls full of coffee capsules waiting to be taken home and served up fresh and sell an array of gadgets and accessories to jazz up coffee-time. The boutique is filled with that amazing coffee aroma and basically – you never want to leave!
Whilst in the likes of NYC on Madisson Avenue, the Nespresso Boutique Bar FLAGSHIP invites you to stay as long as you like and enjoy your coffee whilst topping up with a month’s supply of coffee, the Regent Street London Nespresso Boutique is more about glamour and the prestige of purchasing your Nespresso coffee capsules to use at home.
Either way – when my home made Nespresso coffee tastes AMAZING (no, not like any instant equivalent… this is the real deal people!) and costs approx 10% of what I’d pay for my regular coffee at my favourite coffee joints… it’s a no brainer! Savvy brewing ahoy…and my fav coffee spots will simply be left for ‘special occasions’.
